Edmonton Condo Living Advantages: Condos, Lofts and Apartments

The Edmonton condo market is flourishing and it’s easy to see why: the vibrant downtown core and urban lifestyle appeals to many young couples and professionals, especially those who are also first-time buyers. Living in a condominium perfectly blends the advantages of owning your own home with the convenience and sense of community that come with renting an apartment.

Benefits of the Edmonton Condo Lifestyle:

Affordability: A condo can be the perfect entry point into the Edmonton real estate market for buyers on a tight budget. Mortgage payments on lower range condos are often comparable to rental prices, making them extremely attractive to first-time buyers and singles. Imagine having all the perks and the pride of owning a great home at a more affordable cost! And, in a few years if your lifestyle needs change, you’ll have equity built up to make buying the house you want even easier.

Location: For the eco-friendly or urban-loving buyer, nothing beats a downtown Edmonton condo. You’ll be close to every necessity and hotspot, from shopping and groceries to bars and restaurants. If you work in the Edmonton downtown core and hate commuting, condo living could be the perfect fit, providing you with easy access to public transit. Or, better yet, the right Edmonton condo could even put you within walking distance of your office! By being close to everything you need, you’ll be effortlessly living a more active and eco-friendly lifestyle. The urban condo lifestyle in Edmonton is particularly attractive because of its proximity to the beautiful Edmonton River Valley, the longest stretch of connected urban parkland in North America.

Low Maintenance: The maintenance-free aspect of condo living is one of its greatest advantages. The condo lifestyle means someone else takes care of all the yard work, plumbing and snow shovelling, leaving you free to spend more of your time the way you want to. By choosing an Edmonton condo you’ll be living a simpler life, free from many of the strenuous maintenance tasks that are covered by your condo fees.

Community and Security: Condominiums offer a unique community dynamic since most of the building is shared space. Because you’re surrounded by neighbours there are lots of extra eyes keeping watch over things, giving you better peace of mind. Additionally, most condos have extra security features such as guards, secure parking and locked exterior doors that must be buzzed open.

Amenities: Many Edmonton condos offer amenities and luxuries typical single-family homes don’t. There are a wide range of potential perks you could find in the condo market, from swimming pools and hot tubs to gyms and tennis courts. Some buildings even have common recreational spaces, meeting rooms or party facilities you can book and share with your neighbours. In some cities there are even condo/hotel hybrids that offer concierge and housekeeping services!

Design & Flexibility: There are tons of great designs and layouts available in the Edmonton condo market, making it easy to find a condo that seems tailor-fit for your particular needs and lifestyle. From one bedroom to larger multi-bedroom floor plans, your perfect condo is out there. And when you find it, you’ll be able to customize it just the way you want it: from the floor to the paint on the walls. This month’s edition of House and Home put it best:

“As more and more people embrace condo living, the old cliche of builder-box kitchens and Ikea furniture is giving way to a new reality of sophisticated, customized spaces that rival any detached house.”

  1. Calgary Condos, Eric Says:

This is a fantastic post on the advantages of condo living that translates to any city! Some people are so attached to the idea of owning a house that they overlook all the disadvantages: higher utility bills, lots of maintenance, etc. For some people, deciding to buy a condo rather than a house can be the best decision they’ve ever made!
